For centuries, the ancient steppes of Europe and Asia were inhabited by nomadic peoples, the Scythians being the most (in)famous of them. With their agile attacks and tendency to migrate into already populated areas, the ferocious horsemen that dominated these nomadic tribes were often a serious threat to the more civilised peoples of the Mediterranean.
