Issue 133 - The Battle of Prestonpans
On 21 september of 1745, the Scottish highlanders who had joined the cause of 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' committed to a terrifying charge. Lacking artillery, they ran headlong into the waiting English line. Well-formed and ready to unleash a volley, the English infantry saw first their artillery and cavalry melt away, before the men too headed for the hills. It was a short battle, and one of the best examples of the effect of what a charge really could do.
