Junkers JU 88
I've been playing a lot of Blood Red Skies recently, in preparation for a 'Let's Play' in the next issue of Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy magazine. One essential is aircraft models, so I had a look around to see what I could get hold of. There it was, a Junkers JU 88 A-4 bomber in 1/200.
The Zvesda kit was simplicity itself to construct, taking less than five minutes. I decided to keep the two glass sections off until after I'd sprayed the model. Now here's where the confusion began. What paints should I use?
A quick Google search left me more confused than ever. I quickly worked out I'd need the equivalents for the German RLM 70 and 71, but what were their Vallejo Model Color equivalents? Could I get away with any old dark green?
So, one trip to the local Bekra RC model shop later, I had what I needed. Yes, I cheated. I realised that I was taking up an hour of research for the correct 'blooming' colour, so I bought Vallejo Model Air Dunkelgrün and Schwartzgrün.
Another quick bit of google-fu and I had some 1940's era JU 88 camo patterns. In my next blog I'll go through my attempt to paint this camouflage pattern. The results were interesting, so stay tuned!
