This volume of Setting the Scene looks at how to make the terrain and convert the figures to play David Hunter’s superb Road to Dombas campaign for Chain of Command which featured in WSS 100. It is 112 pages packed with modelling ideas as well as the inclusion of the actual campaign article at the back of the book.
This book provides a guide to get you started in making and painting terrain, vehicles and figures for the Norwegian campaign of 1940.
This volume follows the same format as the previous two volumes; as a step-by-step guide for making terrain and painting figures. Volume 1 focused on a winter setting in the Ardennes during WWII, whilst Volume 2 has a Mediterranean theme and has a dual use for WWII Italy and Sicily, and the Napoleonic Peninsula War.
This volume of Setting the Scene tries to show the reader how to create a table layout with for late winter / early spring in Norway, but provides plenty of guidance for generic wintery landscape. There are sections on making a wintery terrain mat, adding rivers and rocky ground, winter woods, a variety of fences and barbed wire, bridges and clutter terrain and signposts. To top it off, there is information on making your own houses and converting MDF models to look the part for Norway in 1940. If a permanent winter table is not your thing, tips are provided for a 'temporary' seasonal conversion.
The quality of the terrain is all made to a very high standard and easy step-by-step instructions are given so that all modellers from beginners through to experienced veterans could certainly pick up some tips. Each build has a series of photographs that are clear and easy to follow with a simple description of each stage. It is aimed at the 28mm wargames table, but many ideas should be easy to convert to other scales as well.
