The wars between Rome and Carthage, the two mightiest cities in the Mediterranean in the third and second centuries BC, are some of the most famous episodes of ancient (military) history. At the center of it all were the Barcids, a powerful Carthaginian family that produced multiple well-known generals who repeatedly clashed with the forces of the Roman Republic. This issue discusses the armies, exploits and battles of various Barcids at war, including- but not limited to- their most famous member, Hannibal.
