Campaign: New Guinea
The most recent release for the Bolt Action game is Campaign: New Guinea. This book covers the Imperial Japanese invasion of the Australian held territory of New Guinea. The New Guinea campaign lasted from 1942 to 1945.
I have been very pleased with the Bolt Action campaign series, they have turned into an excellent series of books, giving detailed scenarios, special units and simple theatre rules for the campaigns they cover. The recent releases in this series have focussed on specific campaigns in great detail. Campaign: New Guinea is no exception.
The book itself is 132 pages and colour throughout, with plenty of good illustrations and inspiring photographs. covers the history of the New Guinea campaign including scenarios for the initial invasion and the infamous Kokoda trail. There are twelve scenarios in total, covering the likes of raids, beach assaults and attacks on runways.
There are rules for fielding an all Australian force (including locally recruited Papuan Infantry), plus upgrades for the Japanese and Dutch (KNIL Guerillas) forces. Special 'in theatre' rules are included for Tropical conditions & hazards, night fighting, digging in, amphibious assaults and raids. There are a few special historical characters too.
All in all, this is a good book for the Bolt Action player who's looking for great games with a cool historical background.
